Development Gateway (www.developmentgateway.org) seeks candidates for the System Administrator position.
Development Gateway was created in 1999 by the World Bank to spearhead the use of IT in improving the transparency and effectiveness of global development efforts. Since then, the organization has grown into an independent non-profit with offices in North America (main office in Washington, DC), Europe, Africa, and Asia.
The System Administrator will have the following responsibilities:
- Manage servers running Red Hat/CentOS/Fedora Linux systems.
- Perform routine audits of systems and software.
- Monitor and optimize systems stability, security and performance.
- Maximize server uptime.
- Perform backups.
- Apply operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes.
- Participate in the development of IT policies, procedures and resources
- Answer technical queries.
- Document the configuration of the systems.
- Troubleshoot reported problems.
- Support internal phone system based on Asterisk PBX.
- Together with network administrator, maintain network equipment, analyze log files for possible problems and take necessary actions.
- Work with DBA and web developers to fine-tune server configurations.
- Maintain hardware racks and all cabling in the hosting facility; administer terminal services.
- Advise on and perform hardware purchasing.
- Maintain anti-virus and anti-spam filters/scripts.
- Act as a backup technical support.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- A degree in Computer Science or equivalent program.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with management, other employees and vendors.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience as Linux system administrator.
- Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
- Ability to communicate easily with both technical and non-technical staff.
- Good (written and verbal) communication skills.
This is a long term full time position at the Development Gateway's Washington DC office, USA.
Salary starting at $5,000/month, according to the qualification & experience.
